A WOMAN who grew up in Longhirst is currently helping out athletes for the second Olympics in a row.

Having been appointed as a venue manager at the Olympic Park in London 2012, Julia Lediard was then successful in her application to be a volunteer at the Winter Games in Sochi that began last week.

She is stationed in the athletes’ village some 40 kilometres to the north of the town. She is working with those taking part in the biathlon and cross-country skiing.

The former King Edward VI School student, aged 36, is now health-and-safety officer for the student union at the University of Nottingham. In addition to her duties, she has tickets for a curling match featuring Team GB and a super giant slalom skiing event.

She is keeping people up-to-date with her exploits through her blog online – http://julesgoestotheolympics.wordpress.com
