AN amateur golfer from Northumberland showed excellent drive to qualify for a regional final of a UK golf tournament this summer.
David Lawson, who lives in Darras Hall, Ponteland, won the Benfield Motors Audi Invitational staged at the Close House Golf Club near Heddon-on-the-Wall with a score of 40 points in the Stableford rules matches over 18 holes.
He and the other top finishers from the event will now pair up in a regional final at Rockliffe Hall Golf Club near Darlington on July 22.
The one-day competition at Close House was supported by four Benfield Motors outlets in Tyneside, Teesside and Wearside and it is one of over 40 Audi quattro Cup Invitational events being staged throughout Britain.
Eight regional finals will take place in July and August, with the top 18 pairs going forward to the Audi quattro Cup UK final at Bowood Golf & Country Club near Calne, Wiltshire, in September.
Two pairs representing Great Britain will then compete in the Audi quattro Cup World final at the Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles, in November.
The tournament is the world’s largest amateur golf competition, with almost 80,000 players from over 50 countries taking part.
