A TOTAL of 23 teams participated in LionSwim 2012 in aid of Morpeth Lions Club and their own organisations.
They swam more than 64km, which is almost the distance from Morpeth to Newcastle and back.
This year’s event was again organised by Lion Les Brindley.
Among the 132 swimmers aged from seven to 80 taking part, were three teams from Morpeth Swimming Club. Some of these swimmers are going to help at the Olympic Games and need to raise funds to cover their expenses.
All swimmers received a certificate recording the number of laps swum. In due course a presentation of funds raised will be held in the Town Hall’s Corn Exchange involving many of those who took part.
Mr Brindley said: “I wish to thank and congratulate all the swimmers for their efforts. This is a very happy event which allows valuable funds to be raised by the organisations involved.
“My thanks go also to Morpeth’s Riverside Leisure Centre for their invaluable assistance, to local businesses who so kindly sponsored the event programme and to my fellow Lions for ensuring the event ran smoothly.”
