Thumping win for Seconds

Morpeth II 4 Stockton IV 0

North East Hockey League, Intermediate Division Two

THIS was billed to be a main event, with both teams showing good early form in the league and laying claim to 100 per cent records.

The game started brightly for Morpeth but they were unable to get the ball into the goal early on – credit should be given to Stockton’s keeper who had an amazing flourish of saves.

The visitors broke quickly on a number of occasions but the back-line including Carlyon, Hinshaw, Cook and Mellor held firm.

And goals finally arrived for the home side in the second half when the ball rebounded in the D from a short corner and Foster fired a shot off the inside of the post and into the net, then Tordoff received possession at the edge of the D and released a tremendous reverse stick shot to make it 2-0.

Hudson played a defence-splitting pass through to Foster, who buried the ball for his second of the game, and new boy Breakey finished well to round off the victory.
