The Northumberland Tri event at Druridge Country Park saw the first foray of the season into the Open Water competition for most of the club’s members.
In stark contrast to the previous day, the event was run under cobalt blue skies, albeit this made for very warm running conditions.
In the sprint distance in a field of 199, first back for Tri Northumberland in 20th place in a great time of 1:11:55 was Pegswood’s Tom Pattison.
Darren McBain, in his first race for the club, followed in 24th place in 1:13:03.
Marcus Cockburn produced the 12th fastest swim in 11:49 to finish in 40th, 1:15:16. Graeme Murray was next in 52nd, 1:18:32.
Mark Duffy finished in 78th place, 1:22:50, Ant Thornton was next up in 78th 1:25:48.
Other finishers were Andy Smith 118th, 1:27:43, Joe Robson 157th 1:35:51, Jenny Edgell 169th 1:38:24, and Steve Shepherd of Bedlington less than a week on from his Half Ironman was188th 1:43:40.
Brian and Karen Singleton from Newbiggin-by-the-Sea also competed in the event as a relay team completing the course in 1:34:42.
And so to the standard distance. In a field of 149, Lee Tait from Ashington finished in an impressive 13th place in 2:07:11.
Lee’s next event will be to represent Team GB Age Group at the ETU Sprint Distance triathlon in Kitzbuhel on June 20.
Next was Les Cavill in 32nd place, fourth in his category in 2:07:11.
Ryan Shiel continued his fine form to finish in 40th place, making the podium in second place in his category.
Brian Shiel was 70th 2:30:48.
Other finishers were Iain Fenwick 81st, 2:34:12, Stephen Holmes 83rd 2:34:12, Marius van Aswegen 116th 2:45:57, Paul Martin 124th 2:49:12, and Charlotte Woodcock 142nd 3:11:33.
