Twos up and running

Percy Main II v Morpeth II Northumberland & Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Wellstream B Division League Cup Round 1

GOOD contributions from bat and ball helped Morpeth to a 48-run victory in this cup fixture.

The visitors batted first and openers Jimmy Ingram and Sandy Meikle got them off to a decent start.

Ingram was caught on 24, but Andrew Poxton provided excellent support and soon began playing some attractive shots.

He made 41 and Meikle scored a deserved half century before being bowled when on 51.

There was a late wobble as David Harbottle, Paul Wonders and Benjamin Jones were all dismissed without reaching double figures.

But Jonny Wailes played an important innings of 38 not out as Morpeth finished on 179 for six from their 20 overs.

In reply, Jones made an early breakthrough when he bowled Michael Boyd for one.

Steven Knight and Will Taylor kept the innings together, but Morpeth’s bowlers made it difficult for them to score at the required run rate. Kurran Dhugga trapped Knight lbw for 38 and C Lawn had Taylor caught for 44.

Jones took the wicket of Phillip Cramman for 11 and despite a knock of 26 not out from Paddy Rathbone, Percy Main’s total of 131 for four was well short.
