Ulgham (250-6) v Civil Service (158 all out) Northumberland Cricket League, Division Two
ULGHAM gained revenge on Civil Service for last week’s defeat, but missed out on the title.
Batting first, the home side set an imposing total thanks to a number of useful contributions.
Mark Plummer (53) and Darrell Campbell (52) reached deserved half-centuries and Colin Tait (49), Peter Wilson (43), Gary Hall (26) and Adam Tait (15) all played well.
In reply, the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals and despite a few decent innings they fell well short of the home side’s total.
Wahab Barakat (three for 21), Chris Cowe (three for 43), David Charlton (two for 28) and Campbell (one for 24) were the Ulgham wicket-takers.
But Whitley Bay’s victory at Cramlington meant that Ulgham had to settle for second place in the table. They finished six points behind the champions.
• In the Premier Division, Blagdon Park secured a second-placed finish with a 10-wicket win at home to Bedlington.
Matthew Senior (four for 20) was the pick of Blagdon’s bowlers and Russell Hughes (69) and Mick Leybourne (29) were the unbeaten home batsmen.
