Stobswood Welfare (197-7) v Bomarsund (157)
Northumberland Cricket League, Division One
STOBSWOOD were victors by 40 runs after losing the toss and being put into bat at Bomarsund on Saturday.
Initially the away side lost wickets at regular intervals, although opener Karl Watson scored 28 and Michael Marshall added 32 down the order.
But Welfare managed to post a respectable total of 197 after David Colam (49 not out) and Richard Watson (19 not out) ended the innings with a flourish.
A lax bowling performance from Bomarsund, which included 37 extras, helped boost the score.
In reply, the home side fell short despite a knock of 51 not out from Nick Whiteman and a 30 from Colin Thornton.
Pick of the Stobswood bowlers was Ian Watson who took five wickets for 45 runs off his nine overs.
