Burnopfield II v Morpeth II Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division B1

RAIN prevented a result in this contest as only one innings was completed.

Morpeth were put into bat and made a good start, despite the loss of James Sander who was caught on eight.

Stephen Cowell made a useful 21, which included four boundaries, and Jimmy Ingram played an aggressive innings as he hit four sixes. He reached a deserved half- century, although he was bowled for 55 by Richardson.

Decent knocks were made by Adam Lawn (19) and Joseph Evans (22), but once they were dismissed there was a major lower order collapse. The main factor was the bowling of Sweeney, who took five wickets.

Morpeth were 154 all out, but before Burnopfield could reply the weather intervened and no more play was possible.

A similar thing happened with Morpeth’s first team in the Division A1 match with their Burnopfield counterparts at Longhirst.

This time it was Burnopfield who batted first and they were dismissed for just 148. However, the rain came soon after and the game was abandoned.
