Ponteland (162 all out) v Greenside (140 all out) Northumberland & Tyneside Senior League, Division A2

PONTELAND continued their winning momentum with a 22-run home victory.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, the home side were in trouble when James Ritzema, Matt Darwood and Tom Seymour were all dismissed cheaply.

But Wayne Ritzema (34) and Stuart Taylor put on an excellent partnership to get things going.

James Ealey then came in to provide solid support as Taylor reached a deserved half century.

Unfortunately, Taylor could only move onto 53 when he was caught and Ealey was dismissed for 22.

The other wickets fell fairly quickly as Pont were all out for 162, although Jonathan Appleby and John Gardner made what turned out to be useful scores of 13 and 12 respectively.

In reply, Greenside got off to a poor start when opener Sale was out for a duck after edging a Gardner delivery to wicketkeeper Dan Wright.

Seymour then trapped Penny LBW for 16 and he later took the crucial wicket of Stephenson when he was on 49 – again LBW.

Wayne Ritzema and Ealey took a wicket each to put more pressure on the visitors and when Dan Wright stumped Harrop off the bowling of Howard Wright for 35, victory was in sight.

Howard Wright dismissed two more batsmen and Gardner returned to take his second wicket.

Appleby ran out Smart to leave Greenside on 140 all out.
