MORPETH Ladies continued their winning start to the season with a convincing home victory.

Kate Hall powered through a number of tackles to score after just two minutes, followed by the first of Rachel Best’s seven successful conversions.

Some hard work in the line-out was the catalyst for the next two tries, scored by Diane Purvis and Hall, and the scores kept on coming for Morpeth – with Hall getting her hat-trick, Elizabeth Severs touching down twice and prop Helen Sheerman crashing over in the corner – to make it 46-0 at half-time.

Sheffield had some pressure in the second half but the home side’s defence stood very strong and they extended their lead thanks to the pace of Purvis, who scored her second try.

Despite being reduced to 14 players following an injury to Rachel Parkinson, Morpeth were still able to maintain possession for prolonged periods.

Severs scored a further two tries to take her personal tally to four and Philippa Shell marked her season debut with another to make the final score 74-0.
