SUPERMARKET workers have powered into action to raise more than £700 for Sport Relief.
The total has been collected following a number of sporting themed fundraising events by staff at Ponteland Sainsbury’s store.
The drive included colleagues pedalling the distance to the Olympic Park in London on an exercise bike in the store, with the majority of the work completed by Tom Fenwick on his day off.
And several members of staff took part in the Sport Relief Mile at Newcastle Quayside.
Store Manager Vicki Mains said: “Running for a good cause with so many local people truly was a great experience.
“Sainsbury’s is proud to have sponsored the mile and we’d like to thank all our customers who helped us through their generosity and support.”
Sainsbury’s Chief Executive Justin King completed 32 of the mile runs across the country, including one in Bishop Auckland with Ponteland store worker Lauren Wilson.
The company has raised a total of £4m for this year’s campaign.
