Morpeth Stags 19 Medicals Serpents 54
THE Morpeth Stags put in a wholehearted display but were given a lesson in the harsh realities of rugby on Saturday by an excellent Medicals side.
The hosts stuck to a game plan of attack the blind side, keep the ball in hand, pick and go but it wasn’t enough as they went 0-14 down inside the first ten minutes.
However, Morpeth hit back when the pack drove the ball towards the Medicals’ line and when Leightley was hauled down a yard short, Herne offered himself on the charge.
Despite three defenders trying desperately to prevent the score, the lock crashed over. Owens landed a superb conversion from out wide.
Herne then repeated the feat minutes later to make the score 12-14, but the visitors upped the tempo and ran some fantastic lines to score a number of tries to take the game beyond the home side.
The Stags did notch another score with a pushover try, Rank the man to touch down. Cox then slotted an excellent conversion from wide out on the left.
