Striker available for Liverpool and Spurs

MICHAEL Chopra is available for Sunderland's opening game of the season against Liverpool after it emerged that his three-game ban will not kick in for a fortnight.
The striker received a red card in a pre-season game against Sporting Lisbon and the decision by the authorities to go ahead with a three-game ban was received by Sunderland on Wednesday.
With the ban not beginning for 14 days, that means Chopra will be available for the Liverpool game and the Spurs game which follows.
He can expect to miss Sunderland's Carling Cup tie away to Nottingham Forest and the two Premier League games after that – the home game against Manchester City and the away trip to Wigan.
Manager Roy Keane was unaware when he faced the Press yesterday and revealed the suspension, that there was a 14-day gap between announcement and imposition.
But he is likely to be pleased rather than disappointed with the news.
Chopra is an important part of Keane's plans and it will be a relief that one of his games missed will be a Carling Cup game in which he might not have been involved anyway.
