Loads to enjoy at annual Mitford Fair

Waiting for Video...

People of all ages enjoyed the range of attractions at the third Mitford Fair.

In the evening for the first time, a group called ‘The Rails’ performed live on stage on the village green. The age range of people dancing to the wonderful music was from one to 91.

Organisers set up a cake stall, tombola, barbecue, bar, bouncy castle, tug-of-war event and face painting for the children. In addition, there was a Guide Dogs stall, a plant stall, Maypole dancing and a group of people brought along their classic cars. Coun Glen Sanderson officially opened the fair and this year a flag competition was held prior to the day.

One of the winners of the new design, Mr Tom Filer, raised the flag for the first time as part of the opening ceremony.

The flag is now flying proudly at the entrance to Fontside.

One of the organisers, Elaine Scott, said: “The atmosphere was fantastic and the feedback was very positive.

“Everyone can’t wait for next year’s fair and there are even ideas being put forward in readiness for 2015.

“Thanks to all involved and for those taking part in the event, as well as the people who offered their help on the day.”
