MORPETH Town councillors have met with members of the Morpeth Boundary Ride committee to discuss the future of the traditional event.
Larger councils used to be in charge of the arrangements, which were then taken on by a group of trustees.
Over the last few years, when the horse riding event has gone ahead the attendance figures have been decent, but it has been cancelled on a couple of occasions.
The trustees wrote to Morpeth Town Council, asking it to take on the responsibility for the arrangements, and Coun David Parker reported that the three members who had the meeting with the Boundary Ride committee told it that the authority may be willing to be involved in some capacity.
But they added that councillors agreed taking on the event was not the best way forward and so the committee will discuss how to proceed in the coming weeks.
