Farming was the focus as more than 500 people attended a county rally.

Coquetdale Young Farmers’ Club hosted the Northumberland Federation event at Scrainwood Farm in Alwinton.

There were more than 70 competitions, including stock judging, cookery and tug of war, as well as exhibits.

Cambo YFC claimed the Industrial Cup for flower arranging, cookery and crafts, while the Rally Shield for the winning club went to Whitley Chapel.

Longhorsley resident Jack Kelcher, of Tritlington YFC, won the male tractor handling competition and will represent the county at the Northern Area Field Day in Hull on June 22.

He said: “Working on the family farm means I drive tractors a lot, which has paid off, but I now need to do some more practising.”

The county rally committee, chaired by James Renner, has been working since October on the event.

The county federation includes 11 Young Farmers’ clubs, offering members aged ten to 26 the opportunity to develop skills, travel and enjoy social activities. See www.northumberlandyfc.co.uk
