A TASTE of Italy is coming to the North East as a Ponteland restaurant embraces a popular wine festival.
The Cantine Aperte festival is held in Italy every year on the last Sunday in May when hundreds of vineyards throw open their doors to raise awareness of wine and those that make it.
Now Ponteland is getting in on the event as Fratelli restaurant in Bell Villas dedicates a week to the festival with a special four-course menu, featuring a different Sardinian wine with each dish, based on traditional recipes from the family which owns the restaurant.
Co-owner Paul Bernardelli said: “The Cantine Aperte festival is a fantastic event in Italy, giving people the chance to appreciate the country’s wines and the effort that goes into creating them.
“We hope that the special menu being served at Fratelli will give the food and wine connoisseurs of the North East a chance to enjoy this same experience.”
The menu is available from tomorrow until Friday, June 3.
