WORLD class stars from across the globe are bringing their skills to Morpeth as The Sensational Circus of the Orient calls in for two spectacular shows.

The circus has been specifically designed by creators Carol and Phillip Gandey, who were producers of the internationally acclaimed Chinese State Circus, to visit smaller towns and locations normally considered beyond the reach of such performers.

Yet they say there is no compromise on the size and quality of the shows, which feature a galaxy of circus stars from China, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Bulgaria, Romania and France.

Audiences will be able to witness the Shaolin Wu Shu Warriors, appearing by kind permission of the Abbott of the Shaolin Temple and the Chinese Ministry of Culture, as well as springboard acrobats the Julio Troupe, aerialists Trio Serik and Monalisa and crazy clowns Duo Delbosq.

There will be somersaults on Chinese poles and a cloud swing trapeze.

Artistic Director Phillip Gandey said: “This production is a brilliant mix of oriental and western elements to create a thrilling, entertaining and laughter-packed show, which will appeal to all the family.

“The deliberate mixture of cultures is due to oriental humour not being easily appreciated by western audiences so our clowning duo from Romania and France bring a modern twist to guarantee laughter.”

The tour is able to visit smaller communities thanks to the new design of its Big Top, which can be erected and dismantled in a fraction of the time of traditional circus tents.

Mr Gandey added: “We know that people in the smaller towns and communities frequently feel they are left out of things so here’s their chance to experience what real entertainment is.

“We have invested a great deal in this show and now we will be depending on local people for their support.”

The circus will run at Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre, off the A697, on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

The Wednesday show will be at 6pm, while performances will take place on Thursday at 2.30pm and 6pm.

Tickets range from £6 concession for the rear tier to £16 full price at ringside. The booking office will be open on site from 10am to 8pm on the days of the shows.
