SNAP! (Sharing (K)Nowledge and Pleasure)

Local people and new residents from many parts of the world celebrated the winter festive season in Morpeth on December 29 at Morpeth Scout Hut.

Morpeth Mayor Nic Best was the guest of honour. Participants were from Thailand, Spain, Basque Country, Romania, Germany, Russia, Lithuania and, of course, Northumberland. People brought their local foods, including Spanish empanadas and tortilla, Thai soup, German sausages, Romanian meatballs and aubergine salad, and much more, while Coun Best provided the traditional leek and potato soup. The group also played traditional children’s games and dances, including This is the Way the Lady Rides. Coun Best said: “It was great. There were about ten different nationalities and 30 to 35 people there. It was really interesting to see the different food and games and there was a really friendly atmosphere.”

SNAP meets informally in Morpeth Library most Monday evenings at 6pm, and welcomes people from other countries. They can receive help with improving their English or sorting out problems, or simply just come to be sociable. There is no charge.
