From monks to giants, there was an array of characters in the parade at this year’s Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering.
The traditional Border Cavalcade and Community Pageant drew crowds to the streets of Morpeth town centre.
Led by a Border piper, the event commemorates Lord Greystoke’s return with his troops from the 1388 Battle of Otterburn, to be welcomed at the Town Hall by Morpeth Gadgy Alex Swailes.
The pageant features various performers, dancers, costumed groups and banners, and this year included the Ellington Colliery Band and the Sheffield City Giants — two huge War and Peace characters to tie in with the theme of the Gathering.
Herald photographer Jane Coltman was there to capture a flavour of the fun.
