Appeal for town’s sporting history

AN appeal for Morpeth sporting memorabilia has been issued in advance of a major exhibition.

The Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering Committee is inviting people to a meeting to discuss the recent festival and make suggestions for future events.

Members are also seeking items on behalf of their parent body, the Morpeth Antiquarian Society, to display in the Fair Day exhibition next month.

A display of local sporting heritage can already be seen in the Butter Market at Morpeth Town Hall, but for Fair Day weekend on June 9 and 10 it will be moved into the Corn Exchange and expanded to include as much detail as possible about local sporting groups and champions, as well as the Morpeth Olympics.

Anyone who has photographs, stories or items of interest that could be borrowed or copied is invited to attend the Gathering meeting at Morpeth Methodist Church in Howard Terrace on Monday, at 7pm. Alternatively, call 01670 513308.
