AMATEUR artists took their work to a wider audience in an exhibition at Morpeth Town Hall.
Members of Stannington Art Group held their first exhibition outside the village last week to raise awareness of their club and encourage others to join.
The event was hailed a success, with a stream of people filing into the Town Hall Butter Market on Wednesday to view the paintings.
Group Chairman Pete Cryer said: “We thought it went very well.
“It was unfortunately a rather rainy day so we think that might have affected numbers, but it all fell into place beautifully and we did get quite a good flow of people coming through.
“There were locals who were interested in the art group and quite a few tourists, which we were surprised about. The visitor slips showed there were people from Stafford, Cheshire and the Isle of Bute.
“People were very interested and made some nice comments.
“On the whole, we thought it was worthwhile.”
The group meets in Stannington Village Hall every other Thursday, from 7pm to 9pm. Membership costs £40 for the year and new members are welcome.
