AN author will be calling in to Kirkley Hall to talk about her family’s shady past at the venue.
Karen Charlton began researching her husband’s family tree in 2004 and to her surprise discovered an ancestor, Jamie Charlton, who had been convicted of burglary at Kirkley Hall in 1809.
Further research revealed that he had worked at the hall, which inspired Mrs Charlton to write an historical novel based on the events and the people involved.
Catching The Eagle was published in December and Mrs Charlton will give a talk about her work, as well as offering signed copies of the book for sale.
The event, which has been organised by the Friends of Kirkley Hall in partnership with Northumberland College, takes place on Wednesday, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £5 and booking is essential on 0191 236 2129.
Proceeds will go towards educational trips for students and improvements to facilities.
