FUND-RAISERS were the belles of the ball as they waltzed away with more than £3,500 for good causes.
Pals Sandra Davidson, Edith Sanderson and Louise Currie raised £6,000 for charity three years ago when they embarked on the Inca Trail trek in Peru.
But this time they fancied a fund-raiser closer to home and hit on the idea of a ball.
The glamour girls sold more than 200 tickets for the glittering gala event at Morpeth Rugby Club, raising at least £3,500 for the Children’s Cancer Ward at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, as well as a donation for Help for Heroes.
Mrs Davidson said: “We called it the Trouts’ Ball because somebody named us the old trouts.
“Three years ago we went to Peru on the Inca Trail, but we’re getting on a bit so we didn’t fancy doing anything like that again.
“We thought it would be nice to get dressed up for a change because there is nowhere to go usually and we thought a ball would be a good night.
“Everybody was brilliant. We sold about 230 tickets just by word of mouth.
“We would definitely do something like this again.”
She added: “Through the Morpeth Herald we would like to thank the many sponsors and volunteers who helped us raise the cash.
“We haven’t got a final total yet, but it has reached £3,500.”
