A CANDLE-LIT procession wound its way around Lynemouth to spread some Christmas cheer.

The carol singing event took place last Tuesday, starting and finishing at the William Leech Campus of Northumberland Church of England Academy.

It was organised by members of St Aidan’s Church, which now meets at the campus most Sundays as the church building has closed due to structural problems.

Families were joined by school staff and a local band as they made their way along the main shopping street to the sheltered flats at Park View. Vicar of Cresswell and Lynemouth the Rev Alan Simpson said: “Candlelit Carols is the major Christmas worship in Lynemouth involving congregation, school and the whole village in taking the church and its worship to the people and out onto the streets.”

While the congregation meets at the school in term time, the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services will be shared with the nearby St Bartholomew’s Church at Cresswell.
