GROUPS of Morpeth children are providing a helping hand with local Christmas post.

The 4th Morpeth Scouts delivery service has once again set up post boxes in Barclays, Costa Coffee and Morrisons and its sorting office in the Scout HQ at Low Stanners.

As well as providing an important public service and allowing the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to make a contribution to their local community, this activity is the group’s major fund-raiser for the year.

The money collected last year contributed to the building of its HQ extension and this year it is looking to raise the funds to complete the fitting out of the space, including a well-equipped kitchen area.

The service, which runs until Wednesday, December 19, with the last collection at 1pm that day, covers Morpeth town centre and surrounding estates along with Hepscott, Mitford and Fairmoor.

Cards must be fully addressed and should be posted, with a charge of 25p per card, in one of the collection boxes.
