THE Whalton Village Show was even more popular this year.

The attendance and takings were up on 2012. Including those involved in competitions and displays, about 2,000 people came along.

As well as the entertainment of the sheep racing and familiar features such as classic cars and the show classes, there were two new additions which went down well – the staging of a Northumberland Sheep Dog Trial League contest and a book fair. Music was provided by the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir, Wansbeck’s Ashington Colliery Band and Northumbrian pipers.

Show chairman Martin Keegan said: “It was an excellent day and everyone involved in organising the event deserves praise because it’s a huge show for a small village like ours.”

Funds will be divided between Whalton’s First School, Church of St Mary Magdalene and Village Hall.
