THERE were treats for bookworms of all ages as Morpeth joined in World Book Night.

Members of Waterstones teen and young adult book group read extracts from their favourite books of 2013, while customers were invited to perform readings.

At Morpeth Chantry there were readings by local authors on the theme of outcasts. Free copies of No Greater Love by Janet MacLeod Trotter and The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry were given out, and there were half-price copies of Bridget Gubbins’ latest work, The Mysteries of Morpeth Workhouse.
