MORPETH residents of all ages are invited to get into the festive spirit for the Christmas lights switch-on event this Saturday.

The fun in the Market Place will begin with carol singing, led once again by the Not the Three Tenors group.

They will be accompanied by the Northumbrian Water Ellington Colliery Band.

Following the Christmas Address by the Rev Tony Curtis, Mayor Mark Horton will invite Alfie Wilkinson – the 2012 Morpeth Fair Day Fancy Dress winner – to turn on the illuminations.

There will also be some festive bellringing by the Clock Tower Bellringers.

During the day, there will be festive music and a children’s carousel ride on the Market Place.

The Mistletoe Fair held in the Town Hall will have a range of gifts and crafts on offer from local craftspeople and small businesses. Parents and grandparents can enjoy free hot soup, mulled wine and mince pies as well.

The event will begin at about 4.10pm with a welcome and introduction by Coun Horton. Carol sheets will then be distributed.

This year’s MC will be Morpeth Gadgy Alex Swailes.

The switch-on should take place just before 5pm. For more information, telephone 01670 514314.
