A TRADITIONAL funding boost has again been given to the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering.
As usual, Morpeth Lions Club carried out a street collection at the event last month, which is supposed to be split between the organisation and the Gathering Committee.
However, it has become something of a tradition for the Lions to donate their share of the funds to the Committee as an acknowledgement of the hard work that goes into the festival and the pleasure it gives to the community and visitors.
This year was no exception and Lions President Dave Wheeler was delighted to present a cheque for £660 to Gathering Committee Chairman Kim Bibby-Wilson and Treasurer Janet Brown.
He said: “Every year we are in an ideal position to see the pleasure given to all those who witness the Gathering Procession and enactments. Morpeth Lions appreciate all the effort you put in to ensure a successful weekend and we therefore have pleasure in presenting you with a cheque for £660, which we hope may make a difference and provide you with some encouragement for next year’s event.”
Mrs Bibby-Wilson said: “As ever we appreciate the efforts of Morpeth Lions Club members over the weekend of the Gathering. Hopefully the amount raised is a reflection of the pleasure given to the public who witness the Procession or attend the numerous other events, and an appreciation of our local heritage.”
