MORE than 50 people have taken part in Morpeth’s celebration of World Book Night.
The event was held at Morpeth Library on April 23, the birthday of William Shakespeare, as part of a national initiative which saw around 20,000 people selected as ‘book givers’.
In Morpeth Frank Rescigno chose 24 copies of Bill Bryson’s Notes From A Small Island to give away, while the Greater Morpeth Development Trust was offering copies of The Drovers Are Coming to Morpeth Town by local author Bridget Gubbins.
The celebration included readings from the books, as well as extracts from Morpeth author Janet MacLeod Trotter’s latest work and performances by local poet Amanda Baker.
Mr Rescigno said: “It was good to see so many people attending the event and being so enthusiastic about reading.”
