Hands-on chance at conservation

VISITORS to Wallington on Saturday can lend a helping hand with works that keep the site looking its best.

Those who come along will get the chance to join foresters, rangers and gardeners in a variety of activities — from coppicing trees along the river walk to repairing a bridge.

There will also be demonstrations throughout the day and the opportunity to talk to staff members about volunteering and conservation work at Wallington.

The taster event will be held in two blocks, the first from 10.30am to 1pm and the second between 2pm and 4.30pm. Normal admission charges apply.

Booking is essential. For more information, telephone 01670 773961 or e-mail wallingtoncountryside@nationaltrust.org.uk

On Sunday, join the gardening team on a special tour through the Wallington Garden to discover the secrets of pruning and learn how to keep your garden in tip top condition.

The tour will be held from 1pm to 3pm. Booking is not needed, although normal admission charges apply.
