IF you’ve missed out on an invitation to the Royal Wedding, a Morpeth shop is offering a novel way to bring the event to you.

And William, Kate, the Queen and even the corgis will be there.

Treacle Wool Shop has taken delivery of a Knit Your Own Royal Wedding book for customers to make figures that bear a striking resemblance to the real family.

Knitters can even choose different costumes for the characters, from Kate’s blue engagement outfit to a traditional wedding dress.

Shop owner Claire Lawson said: “We heard about this book on the radio so we went out and bought some.

“There’s a lot of hype about it and we just thought it would be a bit of fun.

“The book has all the characters, from the Queen to Prince Philip and the corgis, and people can change the outfits to follow the royal romance story.”

The book has already been tested by regular customer Jean Brunning, who is a member of the shop’s knitting group, and her Prince William, Kate and a corgi are now on display.

Business partner Kym Hewison said: “We have already sold some of the books because people think this is just hilarious. It’s also a very good way of using up odd bits of wool.

“We are getting quite a reputation for having quirky things in the shop.

“I’ll be in London at the time of the Royal Wedding so I’m going to go along and take the kids to watch. Everybody thinks I’m mad, but it will be good fun.”

The shop, in Chantry Place, is also selling patterns for flags.

The Knit Your Own Royal Wedding book, by Fiona Goble, is priced £9.99.
