A Northumberland museum has been recognised as among the best in Europe.
Woodhorn Museum, which houses the county archives, was highly commended in the Museums and Heritage Awards for Excellence.
The attraction was honoured in the Project on a Limited Budget category for its appointment of a comedian in residence to help bring history to new audiences.
Woodhorn Director Keith Merrin said: “We are thrilled that our project has been recognised in the awards.
“Having a stand-up comedian in residence in a museum seemed like a crazy idea, but in fact it turned out to be a brilliant way to reach new audiences and help people in our community share their memories of coal mining and local history.”
