A GARDEN centre drawing competition went swimmingly for two Northumberland children.

For four-year-old Jack Dinning from Pegswood and six-year-old Ben Fortescue from Newton on the Moor were both named winners of the Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre contest with their drawings of fish.

The centre held the pet drawing competition in April as part of National Pet Month and children could draw any animal they wished.

Their entries were then put on display for customers to vote for their favourites.

The winners each received a certificate, a copy of Anne McBride’s book Why Does My Rabbit...?, a fluffy toy bunny and a £10 gift voucher.

Heighley Gate General Manager Roger Wale said: “Visitors to the garden centre were particularly impressed with Jack and Ben’s drawings, which were both of fish.”
