AMATEUR artists brought a touch of colour to Morpeth Town Hall as they showcased their skills.

Stannington Art Group put on the exhibition in the Butter Market last week as a follow-up to its traditional spring display.

The aim of the event, which was held last Wednesday, was to raise the profile of the group and encourage more people to join.

Chairman Pete Cryer said: “It went well. We had a better year than last year because the weather was kinder. Last year, it rained quite a lot so there weren’t people walking around the streets.

“We picked market day for the exhibition as more people tend to be around then.

“Quite a lot of people wandered in and we had some very nice comments and one or two people wanting to join the group.

“Being a village group, there are a lot of people from round about and there is a nice atmosphere about it. Once people have been two or three times, they feel part of the family. It is very friendly.”

The group meets at Stannington Village Hall every second Thursday, from 7pm to 9pm. The next session is tonight.

Anyone wishing to join can simply turn up, or contact Mr Cryer for more information on 01670 516797.
