Store books a week of fun for young readers

A NORTH East author will kick-off a week of activities at a Morpeth bookshop.

Celia Bryce, from Jarrow, will be calling into the Waterstones shop in Sanderson Arcade on Saturday to sign copies of her debut teen novel Anthem for Jackson Dawes.

The book, published by Bloomsbury, explores first love in the most challenging of circumstances, set in a teenage cancer ward.

The signing will take place between 1pm and 3pm, before the author joins the store’s teen book group for a question and answer session about her writing.

The book group, for youngsters aged 13 and over, will also meet on Sunday, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

On Monday, it is Nigel the Puppet’s story time.

Sometimes he tries to eat the books so the challenge is to see if he can read a story before he gets hungry.

Tuesday will bring Magic Day at the store.

Participants can learn simple tricks to impress their friends.

And for creative youngsters, there is the chance to make sock puppets on Wednesday.

On Saturday, February 23 the bookshop will host a doodle-tastic drawing day.

All activities run from 11am to 3pm.
