Thousands take up cut-price offers

THOUSANDS of Northumberland residents have taken advantage of a discount weekend at local attractions.

The Northumberland Residents’ Festival took place last weekend, with castles, gardens, stately homes and museums opening their doors to locals for free or discounted admission prices.

And event organiser Northumberland County Council said it was a huge success.

Chairman Marcia Bircham said: “The weather was perfect for the festival and we’re delighted that so many residents were able to enjoy it.

“We are very grateful to all the attraction providers who opened their doors to residents during the 2011 festival weekend.

“This provided a great experience for local residents and it also showcases the wonderful attractions Northumberland has to offer.”
