SUFFRAGETTES will be taking over a tea room for the first of an annual celebration.

A Suffragette Lunch will take place at the Edwardian-style Curiously Wicked tea rooms in Sanderson Arcade, Morpeth.

It is part of events to commemorate the centenary of the death of Longhorsley Suffragette Emily Wilding Davison.

Customers are urged to dress in Edwardian or Suffragette costume and there will be the chance to learn more about Emily.

The event will become an annual fixture to celebrate the place of women in the world today.

Emily Inspires Programme Co-ordinator Penni Blythe-Jones said: “The lunch will provide a break in hectic lives, an opportunity to converse, meet old and new friends, even learn a little about Emily. We will be in costume and encourage customers to do the same.”

The two-course lunch, which is open to men and women, will be served next Thursday. Tickets cost £11.50 and pre-booking is essential on 01670 458183.
