AS August was a busy month for members of Kirkley WI, the monthly meeting took the form of two rambles.

The first ramble was the Arts Trail at Newbiggin and the second was a walk around Holy Island.

On Holy Island, the President Judith Arthur entertained the members at her home.

Some of the members talked to Prince Charles, who had timed his visit for the same day.

The September meeting is a talk about Seaton Delaval Hall.

The Newbiggin by the Sea Art Trail has been designed by KEAP Creative social enterprise, which aims to develop arts in the area.

It leads walkers on a two-hour tour of the area, encountering various artwork along the way, from stone carvings and community sculpture to stained glass.

Kirkley WI members completed the trail as part of the Women’s Institute Big Walk, Little Splash summer walking and swimming challenge to celebrate the Olympics.
