Entertainment and regeneration are on the menu for a Northumberland community group.
Stobhill Community Forum has organised a Big Lunch get-together to re-energise the area.
There will be loads of activities to try, such as an inflatable Velcro wall and slide, archery, circus skills, crafts and workshops, and lots of local groups, societies and services will be there with information available to take away.
Music will be provided by local band Tiny Afro, famous for covers of songs by bands such as the Jam and Coldplay.
A barbecue lunch is being provided by Heighley Gate Garden Centre, healthy soup will be offered by Isos housing, and refreshments are being donated by Sainsbury’s and Coca-Cola. Forum chairman Nicky Wall said: “There all lots of great groups, activities and services happening in and around our area. The aim of this event is to bring the community together to celebrate all the great things that are going on.
“We’ve had fantastic support from lots of local organisations to make this event possible, and many local residents have given up their time to help in various ways. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic day.”
Coun Ian Lindley, one of the event’s organisers, added: “I set up the forum in 2007 to be a voice for local people and a tool to improve my ward, Stobhill. This is our most ambitious event to date.
“As well as all the fun stuff, we will be there with information about our planned improvements to the playing field and an opportunity for residents to put forward their views about the improvements.
“There’s still time to get involved. Please get in touch if you’d like to participate, or just come along and support us, and if you’d like, you can bring along some baking to share with your neighbours.”
The Big Lunch will take place on the playing field behind the Barnabas Centre, off Ninth Avenue, Stobhill, between 11am and 3pm on Sunday. There is a small entrance charge, and proceeds will go towards funding future forum events.
