A GROUP of Morpeth teenagers is hoping to get some decent fund-raising support for their Eastern European expedition at the weekend.
Explorer and Network Scouts from across Northumberland, Newcastle and North Tyneside, including 15 from Morpeth and Ponteland, will travel to the Crimea region of the Ukraine in July to meet the demanding requirements of the Scouting Explorer Belt award.
The location was chosen by the young people themselves and many of the contingent are busy learning basic Russian, which is spoken widely in the region.
The total cost of running this event is more than £45,000 and each Explorer Scout has to personally raise £975 towards the cost of their participation in the training and event program, as well as contributing to the central costs.
To help with this, the Morpeth Explorer Scout participants are holding a coffee morning and table top stalls on Saturday in Morpeth Town Hall from 10am to noon.
l Members of the public are welcome to join Morpeth Scouts on a St George’s Day parade on Monday.
The group will march from Sanderson Arcade at 6pm to St James’s Church. They will be led by the Morpeth Pipe Band.
A service will then take place at the church between 6.20pm and 7pm.
