Old-time classics were the order of the day for a phenomenal fund-raising concert.

The Pont Charity Group played host to the event at Newcastle Falcons in Kingston Park last month to raise cash for the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.

Music was provided by the Pasadena Roof Orchestra, comprising 11 classically-trained musicians, and crooner Duncan Galloway.

The 100-strong audience was entertained with songs from the 1920s and 1930s.

A grand total of £1,000 was raised from the event, and the raffle run by CHUF and match-funded by Barclays Bank will be supplemented over the next three months by the Pont Charity Group and its traditional raffle, with a target to raise a further £3,000.

The group, which was set up by Ponteland residents Andy Anderson, Bruce Grant and Jim Robertson in 2013, aims to support two charities a year through concerts and raffles.

And in its first year alone, it collected more than £7,000. Younger volunteers are welcome to join the team.
