A WHOLE lot of love from its clients has helped a band put together by a Morpeth musician to win a national accolade.

Touring group Hip Operation received a Wedding Industry Award in the Best Wedding Entertainment sector at a ceremony in London.

The awards are a mark of excellent service, value and quality and the regional winners are decided solely on the basis of the number of votes cast for each act.

For the national finals, a 13-member judging panel made up of wedding professionals and media personalities take votes, customer comments and an interview with each band into account before announcing their decisions.

More than 2,000 wedding suppliers entered, with over 22,500 couples taking part in the voting process.

Hip Operation founder Steve Dolder, pictured third left, who lives in Stobhill, said: “We were delighted to become the northern regional winner in November and now we are all absolutely thrilled to have won the UK award. It is particularly gratifying because the judges’ decision is based upon feedback from customers who have been good enough to say nice things about us.

“Last year was our best ever, with a total of 220 gigs throughout the UK and in Europe. We are all looking forward to beating that record in 2012 and the award is an early indicator that we are on the right track.”

Founded in 2001, Hip Operation has grown from a small group of six friends to a line-up of 18 professional musicians supported by technicians and a road crew.

The band has entertained Middle East royalty, television and movie stars, Premier League footballers and thousands of revellers over the years.
