Families are being invited to bring their picnics and enjoy an afternoon of free entertainment in Music in the Park this weekend.

The event, which is held in Ponteland Park on Sunday, is being compered by BBC Newcastle weather presenter Paul Mooney.

Performers at the popular annual event, arranged by Ponteland Town Council, include singer Gaynor Marie, North Tyneside Steel Band, Rendezvous Jazz Band, The Ringtones and Ponteland Community Band.

Music in the Park, now in its sixth year, is one of a number of community events run as part of the town council’s vision of giving residents a sense of pride in Ponteland.

Ponteland Town Mayor Carl Rawlings said: “We’ve got a great programme of music lined up for Sunday afternoon. Bring your families down and enjoy a lovely picnic while we entertain you.”

It will run from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, and entry is free.

In the event of poor weather on the day the event will be cancelled.
