A bass player from Morpeth has been enjoying a samba sensation as he joined a Brazilian music programme.

Members of Sage Gateshead’s regional youth ensembles Jambone and Folkestra, including 18-year-old Xan Gill from Morpeth, took part in workshops and seminars with 10 musicians from Santa Marcelina Cultura (SMC) in Sao Paulo.

SMC uses music inclusion and excellence to support around 13,000 young people in deprived areas.

The musicians visited Sage Gateshead, as well as schools and community groups in the North East, as part of an exchange programme.
