CONCERT goers in Morpeth are in for a treat as an award-winning young violinist comes to the town.
Tamsin Waley-Cohen will be in concert with Huw Watkins at Morpeth Music Society’s latest event next week.
The acclaimed musician studied violin at the Royal College of Music, where she was a Foundation Scholar and twice won the concerto competition.
She has established a career in the solo and chamber-music fields, and despite her young age is Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre Chamber Music Series in London and Music Director of the Florence Chamber Music Festival.
Her programme for violin and piano is made up entirely of the sonata genre.
She will begin with Bach’s Sonata No 4 in C minor and Beethoven’s Sonata in D major. They will be followed by Grieg’s Sonata No 3 in C minor.
The concert will close with the less well-known Delius Violin Sonata in B major, which was published posthumously and is written in the composer’s characteristic Romantic style.
The concert takes place in Morpeth Methodist Church in Howard Terrace on Thursday, March 14, at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £12 adults, £2.50 students, and are free for accompanied children.
They are available from Aileen Cunningham on 01670 513369, from the church, or from Morpeth Chantry Tourist Information Centre on 01670 623455.
