A TRIO of Ponteland schoolgirls’ fancy footwork has earned them a spot in a big regional show this Christmas.
Ellie Armstrong, 12, and Sophie Apedaile, 10, who both attend Richard Coates Middle School, and 10-year-old Sophie Reddy of Ponteland Middle School won places in the junior dance teams that will perform in Newcastle Panto Ltd’s production of Robin Hood & The Babes In The Wood.
Youngsters from dance and stage schools in Northumberland and Tyneside were invited to a full day of auditions in September, although the three successful Ponteland girls did not know each other before starting rehearsals together.
Newcastle Panto Ltd was formed by local actor, comedian and musician Brendan Healy, and has been producing annual pantomimes for 18 years at the Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre on Westgate Road in Newcastle.
The company is proud of its North East roots and, this year, it has extended its work to offer educationally-approved, free workshops for schools across the region, which have proved so popular that bookings are already being taken for next year’s sessions.
The girls are all looking forward to appearing in Robin Hood and The Babes In The Wood, which features a range of local celebrities and personalities. It will run from December 7 until January 6.
Tickets can be booked via the website www.newcastlepanto.co.uk or in person at the box office, or by calling Ticketmaster on 0844 4939999.
