Teens get a close look at big show

A GROUP of Morpeth teenagers will get to see a big London show at close quarters next week.

Laura Brown, Lauren Caisley and Ivy Chui, who attend King Edward VI School, were among 45 young people from the Newcastle and Sunderland Stagecoach groups picked to take part in its production of Billy Elliot the Musical at The People’s Theatre in Newcastle.

They also performed a selection of scenes for the northern area showcase of the Billy Youth Theatre national competition at the Sunderland Empire.

And although the trio will not be performing during the West End Gala finale, which will take place at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre on Sunday, other members of the Newcastle and Sunderland groups are taking part so they are going along to see rehearsals and the show itself.

Year 12 student Lauren said: “We are going down to London to support our friends and it will also be very useful to see how a big production is put together.

“The Newcastle shows went very well. It was a great experience for us to perform in front of so many people.”
